Take a walk to fight hunger

Are you in? Join us this Sunday when we Walk the World to fight hunger. Click on the world map or on “Start Walking!” or join our Virtual Walk.

Walk the World is a 24-hour relay that takes place across all global time zones in 73 countires from Australia to Samoa. People will be taking to the streets from the Philippines to Malawi, from Portugal to the Netherlands. This year, Iraq will participate in the walk for the first time.

The global relay will raise funds for and awareness of the one billion people who go to bed hungry every night, according to the WFP. All particpants will walk along a 5km path, which is the average distance a hungry child travels in search of food.

"End Hunger: Walk the World" is an annual event to raise money and awareness for WFP’s efforts to fight child hunger and malnutrition. The Walk is a joint effort of WFP and its corporate partners, led by TNT, Unilever and DSM. Employees from these companies walk with WFP Goodwill Ambassadors, staff, and beneficiaries as well as government and NGO partners to show their solidarity in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.

P.S.

There are 1.02 billion undernourished people in the world today. That means one in nearly six people do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. Hunger and malnutrition are in fact the number one risk to the health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
