Three Famous International Daddy-Daughter Pairs

Lenny Kravitz wrote "Flowers for Zoë" for his baby daughter. The song goes: "Flowers for Zoë, love for Zoë, angels and rainbows, all kinds of things you can call your own…" Photo: Jamie McCarthy / WireImage

"I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection." — Sigmund Freud

Fathers Day is a celebration of the role of the father in the family relationship, and one of the only chances most of us have in the year to say ‘thanks’, and acknowledge the importance of our Dads and Grandads.

Five things to do for Dad on his day.

Pablo Picasso was probably the greatest artist of the twentieth century, and one of his favorite subjects, later in life, was his youngest daughter, Paloma. She, in turn, has translated her father’s feeling for brilliant color, bold shapes, and brazen sensuality into jewels that continue to be among Tiffany & Co.’s best-selling pieces.

Paul and Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney channeled her family’s creative impulses into fashion. Her father, Beatle Paul McCartney, encouraged those aspirations, hooking Stella up with an internship at his Savile Row tailor when she was at university, and penning the song "Stella May Day" for her graduate fashion show at London’s Central Saint Martins. She got by with a little help from her friends, too: Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell modeled in the show, for free. Of course, all that early faith paid off as Stella went on to prove she has two things that seem to elude most celebrity spawn: talent and staying power.

Ron and Bryce Dallas Howard

Like Ivanka, Bryce Dallas Howard has avoided charges of nepotism by both paying her dues and keeping her head down. Her dad, Ron Howard, was one of America’s most famous kids, appearing as Opie in The Andy Griffith Show and Richie in Happy Days before going on to become one of Hollywood’s most successful directors and producers. But Bryce and her siblings were raised in relative anonymity, and when she finally claimed the spotlight, starring in M. Night Shyamalan’s film The Village, it was only after training at New York University and the School at Steppenwolf, and treading the boards Off-Broadway. This summer, she shows off the trademark Howard red hair in Eclipse, the latest Twilight installment.

P.S.

While Father’s Day in France is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of June - worldwide many countries also celebrate Father’s Day throughout the year.

In addition to Father’s Day, International Men’s Day is celebrated in many countries on November 19 for men and boys who are not fathers.
